SEASON-LED

FLORIST

Find your creative & competitive edge through season-led floristry.

Working with locally grown flowers is not simply a different supply chain. It is a different creative medium.

The flowers change. The weather changes. The seasons change. In turn, florists need to learn to respond to those changes, to design with what is in front of them, rather than just following a recipe .

At the School of Sustainable Floristry, we teach florists how to work with the seasons. How to understand their materials. How to develop their own style. And how to create work that feels rooted in a time, a place and a season.

The result is floristry that feels more connected, more distinctive, more meaningful. And, increasingly, more valuable.

Whether you are looking to build confidence in your floral design, transition towards working with locally grown flowers, or develop a creative voice that sets your work apart, The Season-Led Florist offers two ways to learn.

Our flagship twelve-month programme combining 6 in person workshops across the four seasons, online learning and a supportive community of like-minded florists.

For those seeking an immersive learning experience and a structured journey through the seasons.

The Digital Season Led Florist offers a comprehensive library of pre-recorded tutorials and downloadable resources, allowing you to learn at your own pace, wherever you are in the world.

Why Choose The Season-Led Florist?

Most floristry courses teach techniques.

We teach techniques too, obviously. But more importantly, we teach you how to make design decisions for yourself.

Working with locally grown flowers means learning to respond to the flowers as they are presented to you. Because no two seasons are ever the same. No two years are ever the same.

Rather than teaching you to follow recipes, we teach you how to write your own.

Over twelve months, you'll develop a deeper understanding of flowers, seasonality, design and sustainable mechanics. You'll build confidence in your own creative decision-making and learn how to create work that feels rooted in a time, a place and a season.

  • You'll learn how to:

  • Design confidently with the seasons rather than against them

  • Understand flowers, foliage and their unique characteristics throughout the year

  • Develop your own style and creative voice

  • Master sustainable floristry techniques and mechanics

  • Create wedding, event and sympathy flowers using season-led design principles

  • Build a floristry business that is financially, emotionally and environmentally sustainable

This is the course we wish we'd been taught. One rooted in locally grown flowers, naturalistic floral design and sustainable mechanics. Without many of the habits and assumptions we later had to unlearn.

What Will I Learn?

Across the year, you'll develop the technical skills, design confidence and floral understanding needed to work professionally with flowers across a wide range of contexts.

Each seasonal session combines practical floristry techniques with the principles of design, colour, flower selection and seasonality.

Together we'll explore:

Seasonal Flowers

Understanding what grows when, how to condition and care for flowers, and how to design with the unique opportunities and constraints of each season.

Floral Design

Colour, texture, form, proportion, movement and how to create arrangements that feel natural, balanced and distinctive.

Wedding Flowers

Bridal bouquets, buttonholes, ceremony flowers and larger-scale wedding designs.

Event Flowers

Tablescapes, centrepieces, meadow arrangements, urns and floral installations.

Sympathy Flowers

Natural and sustainable approaches to funeral flowers and farewell tributes.

Everyday Floristry

Hand-tied bouquets, vase arrangements and working with flowers for maximum impact and vase life.

The Business of Floristry

Alongside floral design, we explore the realities of building a floristry business. From pricing and positioning to communicating with clients, you'll learn how to create a business that supports both your creative ambitions and the life you want to lead.

“The money spent on the School of Sustainable Floristry course has been the best money I have ever spent on my career. After the first season I left saying we would work with British flowers more and never import foliage again. A year later, we made the decision to become the first fully British florist shop in Bedford, only working with locally grown flowers and foliage all year round. The course was a game changer for me. It gave me the confidence in the basics of floristry and an understanding to know what to use at different times of the year, as well as a trust in my materials and flowers that they will hold up and perform as I want them to.”
